Darryl Wayne Parker Sr. STATESVILLE Mr. Darryl Wayne Parker Sr., 44, of 2878 Salisbury Highway, Statesville, departed this life peacefully Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Iredell County, Dec. 28, 1967, and was the son of Jane Scott Parker and Dennis (Myra) Parker, of Chalfont, Pa. He was married to Gretchen Turner Parker, who survives. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Lola Woods Scott and Mildred Mayberry Nixon; grandfather, Theodore Nixon; and a special aunt, Patricia Scott Everhardt. He was a graduate of South Iredell High School, and a lifelong member of Elmwood AME Zion Church, where he served on several boards. He was a perfect example of what it means to trust the Lord with your whole heart. Even in his darkest hours, you could hear him say, "I'm gonna be alright". Mr. Parker was employed for 19 years by Cemex, Charlotte. Darryl's humor, smile and infectious laugh, will be dearly missed by all who knew him and cherished by all who loved him. Those who shall forever cherish his memory are his wife of 19 years, and high school sweetheart, Gretchen Turner Parker; two sons, Darryl W. Parker Jr. and Cameron Parker, of the home; a brother, Dennis (Alma) Parker, of Ketichan, Alaska; four sisters, Donna Parker, of Statesville, Dena Parker, of Greensboro, Carolyn (Brian) Wilson Ferguson, of Statesville, and Star Stokes, of South Carolina; grandfather, James H. Scott, Sr.; mother-in-law, Pauline Byers; father-in-law, Leon Turner; four sisters-in-law, Cheria Turner, D'Adra Turner, and Vickey (James) Turner Watts, all of Statesville and Valerie Radford, of Hickory; four aunts, Pauline (Joe) Blackwell, Deborah Campbell, and Cynthia Byrd, all of Statesville, and Hilda Scales, of Greensboro; three uncles, James Scott Jr. and Joseph (Brenda) Nixon, both of Statesville, and Weldon (Carolyn) Miller, of Charlotte; two great-aunts, Ruby Woods and Eloise Scott, both of Statesville; five special cousins, Russell (Rejohnda) Tucker and Carlos (Stephanie) Westmoreland, both of Troutman, Anissa (Wendell) Lackey, Howard (Lorrinda) Hunter, and Christopher Campbell, of Statesville; two special childhood friends, James (Michelle) Stevenson, of Statesville and Timothy Vanderburg, of Mooresville; a special friend, Lisa Dulin, of Statesville; two "honorary sons", Adonis Rucker and Kelin Keaton, both of Statesville; dozens of close personal friends that are to numerous to list individually; and a host of nieces nephews, cousins, both church families and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 8, at 12 p.m., at the Elmwood AME Zion Church. The Rev. John Phifer, will officiate and burial will follow in the St. Joseph Baptist Church cemetery. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., one hour prior to the funeral, but will assemble at the residence at all other times.
