  Robert "Bob" Hulie Seay Sr STATESVILLE Mr. Robert "Bob" Hulie Seay Sr., 89, of Statesville, passed away, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Gordon Hospice House, following a brief illness. Mr. Seay was born, April 16, 1923, in Gaston County, and was the son of the late Robert L. Seay and Roxie Bertha Mae Studdard. He attended Gaston County Schools, and in 1979, he married Vera Childers Seay, who preceded him in death, Nov.of 2003. Mr. Seay was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served during World War II. He was also a member of Victory Baptist Church, Charlotte, and was retired from P.O. Lunch, where he worked as a cook. He was a member of the Local #96 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, a former mason of Steel Creek Lodge and VFW Post 2031, Statesville. Along with his parents and wife, Mr. Seay was also preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and William Seay; along with four sisters, Helen Armstrong, Carrie Byers, Betty Godbey, and Sue Lackey. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Robert H. Seay III. He is survived by one son, Robert H. Seay Jr. (Irene); three daughters, Jane Harding, Debbie Floyd (David), all of Bolivia, N.C., and Sandra S. Hutto (Donnie), of Huntersville; one brother, Frank Seay (Joann), of Concord, N.C.; and a sister, Connie Starr (Don), of Lake Wiley, S.C.; along with 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service for Mr. Seay will be conducted, at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Cook officiating, and full military honors provided by the Iredell County Military Detail. The family will visit with friends, following the service, and the family will be assembled at other times at the home of Chris and Rita Mauney. Active pall-bearers will be Chris Mauney, Brandon Crouch, Mike Mayberry, Brian Hutto, Wrye Youngblood, and Rusty Seay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Serenity House, 110 Centre Church Rd., Mooresville, NC 28117, or to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
