Carl Olof Anderson Jr., 70, St. Augustine, lost his battle to cancer and passed away at his residence in St. Augustine on Aug. 10, 2014. Carl was born in New Haven Waterbury, Conn. He grew up in Pomona Park and graduated Crescent City High School in 1963. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force as a airman second class. He was retired in 1965. He returned to Pomona Park where he served as a Putnam County Deputy and was a commercial fisherman. Carl worked as lab supervisor for Georgia Pacific for 40 years.
He also served as Mayor and Fire Chief in Pomona Park for over 20 years and was an active member of Masons. After moving to St. Augustine, he became a member of Anastasia Baptist Church where he served as an usher. Carl was involved in the community; very outgoing, loved his friends, family and he loved to fish. Most of all, Carl was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Evelyn Anderson of St. Augustine; two daughters; Amanda Anderson of Palm Coast and Elizabeth Chapman of St. Augustine; a son, Robert J. Crain; two sons-in-law, Robert Chapman and Matt Sweeney; grandchildren; Britni Ward, Summer Anderson, Walker Sweeney, Joseph Taylor Crain, and Brittani Nicole Crain; a sister, Lili Shang of China; and two brothers, Charles McCrary of Palatka and Mark McCrary of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl O. Anderson Sr., Bernadette Roberts McCrary and Charles McCrary.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday Aug. 16, 2014, at Anastasia Baptist with Dr. Walter West, officiating.
