Mrs. Elsie Louise Jefferson-Chappell, 82, of Espanola, was born on April 25, 1931, in Bartow. She was born to the late Bailey and Pauline Young Jefferson. Elsie Louise Jefferson-Chappell transitioned home on Aug. 31, 2013, at 5:20 a.m., her earthly journey ending at Florida-Flagler County Stuart Meyers Hospice Center in Palm Coast. Elsie was baptized at a very early age in her life and joined the St. James Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful deaconess. She was also a member of Eastern Star. Elsie was educated in the Osceola County Public School System and furthered her education at Florida Normal College, where she received a bachelor of science degree. She obtained a master"s degree in education from Florida A&M University and became a Flagler County school teacher in the early 1960s. She served actively in her community and helped anyone in need.
Those who would cherish Elsie"s memories and legacy include her sisters, Ella Marie Jefferson-Galvin and Hattie Elizabeth Jefferson-Edwards; her daughters, Carla J. Jefferson Harris, Lula Mae Williams, Maize Faye-Williams; sons, Kevin Andrew Chappell and Willie Arthur Jefferson. She was blessed with a multitude of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well an abundance of family, friends, associates and colleagues.
She was preceded in death by her three sisters, four brothers and one daughter.
Homegoing celebration will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Bunnell. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at St. James Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Patrick Wilkinson will be the eulogist. Burial will take place in Masonic Cemetery, Palm Coast.
