John R. Davis Jr., 89, passed away June 21, 2013, at his St. Augustine, Fla., home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in West Nanticoke, PA, John and Louise, his wife of 70 years, resided in Pennsylvania prior to moving to Florida 30 years ago. John was an Army Air Corps WWII veteran, a coal miner, an inspection supervisor at Air Products and an employee at Howard Johnsons. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of St. Augustine.
John is survived by his wife Louise, son Ernie, sister Helen, brother James, granddaughters Darci and Denise, and great-grandchildren Chad and Ashli, his adoring dog Daisy and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,John & Leona, sisters Betty & Ruth, and his son John.
John was a kind man filled with life and love for all. He shared that the secret to his long, loving marriage of 70 years was one word, compromise. He shared many of his very best stories, songs and jokes. Smart and charismatic, artistic and well-versed, John (aka Mr. John, Dad and Pap) will be missed by many.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Craig Memorial Park in St. Augustine.
