Bernard Rudolph "Bernie" Leckie III, 56, of St. Augustine, passed away Feb. 26, 2013, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. He was born in Huntington Beach, Calif., and grew up in California and South Florida. Bernie served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and went on to a career as an aircraft mechanic working for Lockheed, Aero and Grumman. He enjoyed boating, fishing, computers, gaming and constructing model ships. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Above all, Bernie was a devoted husband and a loving father, he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Leckie of St. Augustine; daughter, Kimberly Bretado (Mickey) of Honolulu; a son, Tommy Hill (Charlene) of Ocala, Fla.; his parents, Bernard Jr. and Velva Leckie of St. Augustine; a brother, Lonnie Leckie of St. Augustine; and two sisters, Roxie West (Jerry) of Lancaster, Calif., and Linda Maas (Richard) of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013, with the Rev. Jim Taylor, officiating. A visitation beginning at 4 p.m. will precede the service. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
