Donald West, 78, passed away Aug. 9, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Hopewell, Va., on Aug. 28, 1935, and has resided in Florida for the past 45 years. Chief West retired from the U.S. Navy in 1973 after 22 years of service having served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Don was active in the Masonic Fraternity and served as Worshipful Master of Orange Park Lodge in 1980 and District Deputy Grand Master in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Jeffrey; and daughter, Dianne Cernese, husband Frank; grandchildren, Kellyann, Jeffrey and Kimberly; sister, Dianne Johnson and husband Ken of Lilburn, Ga.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at Craig Funeral Home, Pastor Walter West officiating.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may make a donation in his memory to The Shriner Hospitals for Children or a .
