James Andrew Sloan (Jim) died July 10, 2014, in St. Augustine, Fla. He was born Dec. 20, l957. He is survived by his mother, Kathy Yeates Sloan, his son, Vaughn Sloan (Tonya) Independence, Mo., his son, Lee Andrew Sloan, Orange Park, Fla., and his daughter, Bridget Fieber, serving in the U. S. Army, one sister, Pamela Baker (Charlie), Charleston, S.C., two grandchildren, Noah and Kenzie
Sloan. He was predeceased by his father, Vaughn, and his brother, Gene.
James was a retired staff sergeant, U. S. Marine Corps. He served in the presidential service as crew chief on MARINE I, HMX-1, Quantico, Va., the presidential helicopter during the terms of Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.
Later served at Parris Island, S. C., Cherry Point, N.C. and aboard the U.S.S. TARAWA.
He was an avid sportsman, enjoying scuba diving, marathon participation (including the Marine Corps marathon yearly), camping and especially fishing with his dad.
James was a graduate of the University of Florida and was employed following graduation at Driftwood Art, Gainesville, Fla.
Private Military services will be held for family on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
Local services for James will be announced at a later date.
