Minas A. Sarris, 82, of St. Augustine, passed away Nov. 21, 2013, at the Bailey Center. He was a wonderful, athletic, family man, generous of spirit, loved by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and dear friend to many.
He is survived by his wife Ivel, his two children A. Victor Sarris (Melanie) and Melissa Sarris Kauttu, his grandchildren Brandon, Nicole, Matthew, Alex, Zoe, Elizabeth and Eleni.
Minas was born in Tarpon Springs and was raised in St. Augustine, where he graduated from Ketterlinus High School in 1949. He graduated from the University of Florida, where he played basketball for the Gators. He also served in the U.S. Army. Minas was an industrial engineer and worked for Elliott Co. and A.C. Compressor and was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and A.H.E.P.A. He coached and played basketball his entire life, helping many people improve their skills at the YMCA and elsewhere, always with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. He also loved watching his grandchildren play sports and excel at school. Minas had a great sense of humor, was a wonderful dancer and regularly visited all of his family and friends.
A viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Craig Funeral Home with a brief prayer service taking place at 6 p.m. The funeral service will start at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 2940 C.R. 214, followed by a burial service at San Lorenzo Cemetery.
