Robert Ellis Schaefer (Bob – AKA Pops), 79, died at his home in St. Augustine, Fla., on Jan. 18, 2014, due to terminal cancer. He was born on May 24, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955. He then had a long carrier as a merchant marine and traveled the world on various ships, including supply missions for the Vietnam war. Since his retirement, he has enjoyed volunteering for many organizations including state parks, charity organizations and Meals on Wheels.

Bob is predeceased by his wife Marie Schaefer, and daughter, Dawn Tomlinson.

He is survived by his children, Leila Hartland (David Hartland), Melody Stewart (Ali Burchfield), and Christene Rice (Ron Rice). Bob leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be dearly missed by them all.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thusday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Craig Funeral Home.
