David E. Del Rossi, 73, St. Augustine, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Bailey Center Community Hospice following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife, Heidi Puwalski; his sons, David J. Del Rossi and wife Renee and James E. Del Rossi; his sisters, Margaret Mary Juliani and Edna May Anyzek; four grandchildren, Alexandra Del Rossi, Shannon Del Rossi, Danielle Del Rossi and Ryan Del Rossi; Heidi"s children, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchild; along with many close friends.
Born and raised in Camden, N.J., the son of Joseph and Edna Del Rossi, David loved sports and played baseball and was the starting running back for the Camden High School football team. After graduating from high school, David spent seven years as a Camden police officer. He left the police force and moved to Hamilton, N.J., where he continued his work in the security field at a private firm in New York City, then with AAA Trucking and Carolina Freight as the security director. He moved to St. Augustine where he worked as the safety director for ABF Freight and later retired. David took pride in his professional career and built an outstanding reputation in the security field.
David retired to a beautiful house in St. Augustine with a lake in the back yard and the ocean a mile away. He continued to remain active and worked at Home Depot part time where he cherished the many friendships established.
David"s true passion was fishing with his friends on the pier and he always enjoyed being close to the water. He also was a member of St. Augustine Elks Lodge 829, where he would enjoy dancing with his wife and sometimes even a little karaoke singing.
The family held a private funeral service July 26, 2013 with a private burial.
