David J. DeMaria Freer, 62, of Hastings, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness. David was a native of Roebling, New Jersey and had been a resident of Hasting for the past 14 years coming from Roebling, N.J. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had worked as a welder in construction prior to becoming disabled. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His dogs Einstein, Lucky and Sam were like his children. David was known by his family and friends as a very kind and big hearted person, a jokester and delightful storyteller. He will be sadly missed by his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ibanez Freer; step-father, Gilbert Freer; biological father, Salvatore F. DeMaria; a sister, JoAnne Martisofski and two nephews.
Surviving are four sisters and a brother, Kathyanne M. DeMaria of St. Augustine, Ramon A. DeMaria of Milothian, Texas, Dolores R. DeMaria of Panama City Beach, Mary F. Barota of Jackson, Michigan and Nancy A. Todd of Panama City Beach; several nieces and nephews and a dear longtime friend, Lori Pepponi-Kilgore of Columbus, N.J.
A viewing was held and no further local services are planned.
Inurnment services will be announced at a later date to take place at Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson, N.J.
