
Frederick C. Herx, III, 46, St. Augustine, died unexpectedly on April 13, 2012 in Miami after a brief illness. He was born in Worcester, Mass., raised in West Boylston, Mass., and resided in St. Augustine for many years. He received his bachelor"s degree from Flagler College and his master"s degree from the University of North Florida. Fred was a beloved teacher and taught English at Pedro Menendez High School in St. Johns County. Prior to being at Pedro, Fred taught at Nease High School, as well as several other area schools over the past 20 years, including the University of North Florida. Fred was truly a people person and was loved by all who knew him. He was a loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan, and enjoyed fishing, hiking, boating, traveling, cooking, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends. This tragic loss will be forever felt by the community in which Fred was so much a part.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. Interment will follow in San Lorenzo Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home, with a vigil service beginning at 5 p.m.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Katrina Herx; two sons, Frederick C. Herx, IV and Shawn Turner, all of St. Augustine; his parents, Frederick and Mary Ellen Herx, Sterling, Mass.; two sisters, Mary Ellen Morrill (William Morrill), Mansfield, Mass., and Anne Weaver (James Weaver), Sterling, Mass.; and countless nieces, nephews, godchildren, and other extended family members.
