James Perry "Jim" Greenleaf, 77, of St. Augustine, went to be with the Lord on March 29, 2013, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring, surrounded by his family. A heritage native of St. Augustine, Jim was born and raised in St. Augustine, son of Perry Boyce and Gloria Usina Greenleaf. He was a 1954 graduate of St. Joseph Academy and was recruited right out of high school by the FBI. Soon after graduating, he moved to Washington D.C. where he worked as a courier for the FBI. In 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was sent to Germany where he worked in Intelligence. He met his bride-to-be while stationed there and married Helga Fickenscher on Sept. 12, 1963, in the town hall, with a more formal ceremony on Sept. 14, 1963, in the Lutheran Church in Hof/Saale, Germany. Jim enjoyed a 25 year career with Barnett Bank and retired as senior vice president in 1990. He was longtime catholic and attended Anastasia Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Paul James Greenleaf. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helga Greenleaf of St. Augustine; a daughter, Francescia "Fran" Anderson (Chad) of Hastings; a son, Perry Greenleaf of Key West, Fla.; brothers, Bob Greenleaf (Marilyn) of Jacksonville, Downing Greenleaf (Angela) and Herbert Greenleaf (Shiela), both of St. Augustine; and grandchildren, Autumn Rowell (Jeff), Chandler Anderson, and Nicholas Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Anastasia Baptist Church with Dr. Walter West and Pastor Dan Davis, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Jacksonville National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Johns Family Funeral Home.
