Martha A. Powell, 88, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully on Nov. 12, 2017, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. Martha was born and raised in Follansbee, West Virginia. She met her beloved husband, the late Julius "Jay" Powell, in Chincoteague, Virginia, after the war while she worked in civil service for the Navy. Martha was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. She and Jay moved to St. Augustine in 1964, and they were both founding members of Anastasia Baptist Church. A talented seamstress, Martha was involved in the church quilting ministry, and she also volunteered for the church library. She worked for Sears in the catalogue store on St. George Street for 11 years. As an artist, Martha enjoyed doing crafts in her spare time, and she and her husband also loved going on RV trips, often taking their grandchildren with them. Above all, she delighted in family gatherings, especially in hosting family get-togethers. Married for 65 years, Martha and Jay are now united together in heaven. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, grandchildren and church family.

She is survived by her daughter, Alice (Jay) Daniels of St. Augustine; a brother, James A. Molnar of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren, Adam Rowe (Tori), Bart Daniels (Rachael), Cory Daniels (Rene), Kurt Daniels (Stacey) and Reagan Carreira (Chris); and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Julius "Jay" Powell and daughter, Devona Rowe.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at Anastasia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Walter West officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Pellicer Creek Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Johns Family Funeral Home.
