Sylvia Jane Ferguson passed away Jan. 9, 2017, at Bailey Family Center for Caring. She was born in Medford, Massachusetts, to Starling and Dorothea Mowder.
Before moving to St. Augustine in 1972, Sylvia was a foster parent in Massachusetts along with four children of her own.
Professionally, Sylvia was a nurse at Flagler Hospital ICU and the infirmary at Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind. She worked for vocational rehabilitation for many years and retired from Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind as an administrative assistant.
After Sylvia's retirement, she worked as a nurse with a home health agency, Guardian Ad Litem & Kids Bridge.
She was a member of The Red Hat Society and the Garden Club.
She enjoyed being with her family, especially her precious grandchildren, spending time with friends, ushering at the The Limelight Theatre here in St. Augustine, going to the movies, attending plays and musicals.
Sylvia was a devoted mother, grandmother (Nane) and friend. She touched many lives and was a positive role model to many. She will be missed dearly.
These are two quotes Sylvia loved:
"Children are the apple of your eye…and the core of life"
"Hold a true friend with both hands"
She is preceded in death by: father, Starling R. Mowder; mother, Dorothea Maria Mowder; former husband, Thomas Ferguson; brother, David Mowder.
