William M. "Bill" Currie, 81, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland, he moved to the United States in 1931. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a pipe fitter for Metro North in New York for nearly 20 years. Prior to that he worked as a Union construction worker, doing many projects in New York City, including helping to construct the World"s Fair facilities. He was a strong man who loved to work with his hands. After his retirement in 1992, he moved from New York to St. Augustine. Most of all he was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Carol Currie; daughters Carol Ann Bolich and her husband Steve, of St. Augustine and Ellen Frugis and her fiance, Cole Bucci of Cortland Manor, N.Y.; grandchildren Jennifer Connor and her husband Timmy of Seattle, Wash., Christopher Bolich of St. Augustine and Michael Frugis of Cortland Manor, N.Y.; and a great grandson, Jaxon Steven Connor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabella Pope Currie and William Currie of Aberdeen, Scotland; two sisters, Alice Gleitsman of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Jean Fanelli of Richmond, Va.: a son-in-law, Christopher Frugis and a grandson, Anthony Frugis; both of Cortland Manor, N.Y.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with Father Joseph Kaminsky officiating. A visitation, beginning at 5 p.m., will precede the service.
