Carliss J. Anderson, born June 2, 1946, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 7th, 2014, at Flagler Hospital, St. Augustine, Florida. Carliss spent her life being a trendsetter and advocate for change. From being the first ever female school bus driver in the Glen Alpine School system (in the 1960's) to being the key motivator to bring Flagler Hospital to magnet status in mid-2000s - she has always worked to make a significant impact in the lives of those around her.

A 1964 graduate of Glen Alpine High School, she gained her Associate degree at Western Piedmont Community College, Morganton, NC and graduated at Lenoir Rhyne College, Hickory, NC with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After moving to St. Augustine, Florida in September of 1983 and beginning employment at Flagler Hospital, she completed her Masters of Science in Nursing at Jacksonville University in 2004. She was a certified Cardiovascular Registered Nurse and was currently working in Medical Informatics at Flagler Hospital, as a Clinical Informatics Specialist/ENR Physician Support.

Most notable in her 30 year career at Flagler are the multitude of friends, associates, and students that she mentored to better nursing, adopted as 'her kids' and invested her life into them; her involvement and work in bringing the hospital to full magnet certification and status, and the transition of the hospital from paper charting to MediTech electronic documentation.

She is survived by her mother, Lena Jerome Anderson of Glen Alpine, North Carolina, her younger brother, Jerry Anderson, his wife, Julie, and daughter Amanda, of Granite Falls, NC; her roommate and friend of 30 years, Olivia Hagos, of St. Augustine, Florida; Long time friend, Gloria Mumford of St. Augustine; her sister-in-law, Linda Anderson, Morganton, NC; nieces, Terri Lynne Bourne and husband, Eddie, Morganton, NC; Christy Anderson, and Kelley Butler, Morganton, NC, and Jodi Anderson, of Cramerton, NC; great-nephews, Brandon Deyton, Bradley Deyton and wife, Sherry; Great Nieces, Katelyn and MacKenzie White, Sarah Deyton and husband, Brandon Auton. Great-great nephews, Avery Deyton, Vincent and Victor Auton, and great-great niece, Luna Shea Auton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Dewitt Anderson, and her older brother, Tommie C. Anderson, both of Glen Alpine, North Carolina.

A Celebration of Life will be held today, March 9, 2014, at Craig Funeral Home, 1475 Old Dixie Hwy, St. Augustine with a receiving from 2 to 4 p.m. and Celebration of Life Service at 4 p.m. in the Craig Chapel.
