Mae Bessie Odom, 81, affectionately known as "Yi Yi", peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 13, 2014, at home. She was born in Olar, S.C., and had resided here since 1946 during her early childhood. Known for her delicious meals and a love for cooking, she was employed as a cook at Chimes Restaurant for over 30 years; a baker at Marineland Restaurant; the Monson Bayfront Restaurant and a domestic engineer for Jimmy and Pearl Dart. She was a faithful member of E.A. Kelley Sr. Memorial Church of God in Christ, serving dutifully on their Mother's Board.
She is survived by a loving family, her children, Tony A. Odom, Graceville, Fla., Ariel Lewis (Carlton), St. Augustine, Fla., and an adopted daughter, Dedra Williams Carter (Terrance), Chester, Va.; grandchildren: Keith Williams Jr., St. Augustine, Carlton Lewis Jr., Atlanta, Ga., and Pvt. Tatyana Lewis, Wahiawa, Hawaii; great-grandchildren, Mari and Keith Williams, III; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon on April 19, 2014, at New St. James M.B. Church, the Rev. Nathaniel Jackson, pastor, Elder Donald Kelley, officiating. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the E.A. Kelley Sr. Memorial COGIC, from 7-8 p.m. at Chase Chapel and from 11 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday at New St. James M.B. Church.
