Helen M. Tobey, 76, St. Augustine, passed away June 3, 2014, at the Roberts Care Center in Palatka. She was born April 6, 1938, in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late Daniel Herman and Helen Rebecca Pleitner, and had resided in St. Augustine since 1990, moving here from Stafford, Va. Helen worked many years in health care as a nurse and she was a former politician and political advocate. She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star.

A visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday June 7, 2014, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Federal Point with the Rev. Donald H. Dinwiddie, officiating.
A reception will follow at the parish fellowship hall.
She is survived by her children, Melissa Rebecca Smarr and her fiance, Charles Zintner, Stafford, Va., Donnamarie Danette Tippit, Rex Daniel Tobey, Christa Jeanette Tobey, all of St. Augustine; sister, Donna Mary Acton, Annapolis, Md.; grandchildren, Michael Dean Franklin (Karoline), Justin Michael Daniel Smarr (Fatamia), Jessica Ann Thamm (Chris Koenig), Stephen Gerhardt Thamm, James David Franklin (Shelly), Keri Ann Clarke; great-grandchildren, Tavian Gerhardt Thamm, Ethan Zachary Franklin, Brian Daniel Smarr, Charlie James Smarr, Lacey Madelyn Catalata, Zoe Madison Catalata, Cambrian Willis Jones, Celeste Dantrell Jones; and nephew, Michael Wayne Acton.
