Woodard H. Hucks of St. Augustine passed away June 6, 2014, at Flagler Hospital. It was his 95th birthday. He was born in Marion, S.C., on June 6, 1919. Woody served throughout World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps, participating in campaigns in North Africa, the Italian Peninsula and China. He was discharged in June 1945 and returned to St. Augustine, where he worked for Greyhound Bus Lines for over 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Lee Goodwin; sisters, Elsie Hucks Williams, Idell Hucks Sanders and Estelle Hucks Bass; and brothers, Orie Griffin and John J.B. Griffin. He is survived by his brothers, Lemuel Griffin and Billie Griffin; numerous nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Juanita Mays.
Woody was active in many civic organizations, including life memberships in the St. Augustine Elks Lodge 829 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2391. He was an avid fisherman, and in later years especially enjoyed his long walks on Vilano Beach.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McDowell Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the McDowell Baptist Church, 16 Bay View Drive, St. Augustine, FL 32084, will be graciously accepted.
