Raymond Francis Flaherty Jr., 73, of the Coquina Crossing Community in Elkton, passed away on July 5, 2014, at the Roberts Care Center, with his family by his side. He was born in Newark, N.J., and moved to Florida about 30 years ago. Raymond dedicated part of his life to the Army and was part of the Army Rangers Special Forces. He was retired, having worked as a retail displayer. He was also a member of the Church of Christ.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Shirylene Flaherty of Elkton; sons, Ray Flaherty III of Yulee, Fla., Donald Devenny (Vicki) of St. Augustine; daughters, Ursula Torbett (Rick) of Lyman, S.C., Sheila Hunter of Port Orange, Fla.; brother-in-law, Randy Mace (Joe Ann); nephew, Mason Mace; sister-in-law, Sharon Coleman Kilgore (James); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Marietta Flaherty, and a sister, June Flaherty.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday July 12, 2014, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with Minister Bob Burkert, officiating. Interment will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. A visitation, beginning at 12 p.m. will precede the services.
