Kathryn "Kay" Elizabeth Fedak, 90, of St. Augustine, formerly of Palm Beach Gardens, passed away July 20, 2014. All of her surviving children were able to be with her during her final days. Kay was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Philadelphia to the late John and Catherine Cooper. Her grandfather quickly nicknamed her "Trouble" as befitting her mischievous nature.
Kay reared six successful children, often single-handedly, while her husband travelled during his service in the U.S. Navy. She was a devoted mother who balanced frequent relocations with continued involvement in her children"s activities and education. In 1964, the family made their final move to Palm Beach Gardens. There Kay applied her bookkeeping skills at First National Bank and later at the Tax Collectors Office of Palm Beach County where she made life-long friends. In 2006, Kay moved to St. Augustine to support her ill daughter and help care for her granddaughter.
Kay is survived by five children: Karen (William) Bunker, Dennis (Linda) Fedak, Richard (Kathy) Fedak, Scott (Holly) Fedak, and Robert (Cyndee) Fedak; grandchildren Liza Bunker, Alison Bunker Houlberg, Lauren Fedak, Michelle Curtin, Amanda Wadsworth, Sarah Ireland, Katie Fedak, Craig Fedak, Dora Sandness, Bianca Esparza, and Chelsea McGarity; and great-grandchildren Alexander Ewers, Emma, Elizabeth, and Anna Curtin, Brayden and Grace Fedak Johns, Natalie Usina, and Wyatt and Gavin Sandness. Kay was prededed in death by her daughter, K. Dian Fedak.
A family service took place Wednesday at San Lorenzo Cemetery in St. Augustine. Donations may be made to ovariancancer.org in memory of her daughter.
