Gerald A. Blauvelt, 73, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 25, 2014, at Community Hospice Bailey Family Center for Caring in St. Augustine, Fla. Gerald was born in Elyria, Ohio, on Jan. 8, 1941. Gerald resided in Elyria until 1997 when he and his wife moved to St. Augustine.
Gerald was employed with General Motors Company for 33 years until he retired.
In his free time, Gerald enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and hunting, and collecting model train sets in Ohio. Upon moving to St. Augustine, Gerald's new hobby became sitting on a park bench on St. George Street, where he became a regular. He enjoyed meeting locals and visitors on the bench in front of his favorite business, Pizza Time. Gerald became close friends with the owner and staff at Pizza Time and was called "Grandpa."
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret A. (Gonzales) Blauvelt; sons, David Blauvelt (Lisa) of Raleigh, N.C., John Blauvelt of Minnesota and Raymond Blauvelt (Tammy) of Lexington Park, Md. Gerald also left behind his four grandchildren, Jennifer Blauvelt-Carter (Joseph), Matthew Blauvelt, Brittney Blauvelt and Megan Blauvelt. Gerald was a recent great-grandfather to Jace.
Funeral and services will be held in Elyria, Ohio, at a later date.
Gerald was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Gerlynn Ann Blauvelt (1965-1965), parents, Walter and Ruth Blauvelt and brother James Blauvelt of Elyria, Ohio.
