Sister Marie Therese Evrard SSJ, died Aug. 15, 2014, at the Bailey Center for Caring, St. Augustine, Fla.ÊSister was born in New London, Conn., to Arthur and Cathleen Egan Evrard. She entered the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine in 1941. Sister earned degrees in music education, liturgical and church music and voice as well as educational administration. She began teaching in 1943 at St. Agnes and St. Joseph Academy, St. Augustine. Sister also ministered at Sacred Heart School (Lake Worth), Gesu School (Miami), St. James School (Orlando), and St. Paul"s School (Jacksonville), Bishop Moore High School (Orlando) and Immaculata High School (Miami).
In 1976, she became assistant superintendent of schools in the Diocese of St. Augustine. Since 1981, Sister has been engaged in parish ministries in Jacksonville, recorded several musical CDs, initiated an SSJ Associate Program through the state, was director of catechesis for Palm Beach Diocese as well as director of music at St. Edward Parish. Her last ministry was as director of music for San Sebastian Parish (St. Augustine). Sister has also served in congregational ministries for many years.
Sister was pre-deceased by her parents, Cathleen and Arthur, her brothers and sisters-in-law, William (Bear) and Mary Osmun Evrard, Jim and Jane Mullins Evrard, and her sister and brother-in-law, Veronica Evrard Wood and Richard Wood.
Sister is survived by 12 nieces and nephews: Sharon Evrard Cox, Peggy Wood Dixon, Timothy Wood, Richard Wood, Denise Wood Norris, Judy Wood Butcher, Arthur Wood, Margaret (Peggy) Evrard Ward, Andrew Evrard, Mary Evrard, Kate Evrard Bixby and Ellen Evrard Fay. In addition, she is survived by 20 grand-nieces and nephews, as well as four great-grand nieces and nephews.
Vigil service: 7 p.m. Aug. 18, San Sebastian Church, St. Augustine. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Aug. 19, San Sebastian Church. Burial will be in San Lorenzo Cemetery. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of San Sebastian Church.
