Theodor Walter Dobosz

Theodor Walter Dobosz, 72, was born in Ulm, Germany, after his parents emigrated from Ukraine. As a young boy, he and his parents moved to Aurora, Ontario, Canada. Ted spent his childhood in Toronto and graduated from Cornell University's elite hotel management school. His career began at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto and continued in Freeport, Grand Bahama, where he was vice president of Howard Hughes' hotel company and the Xanadu Princess Hotel.
Ted spent much of his career managing hotels in the Bahamas and Caribbean on Grand Bahama, Eleuthra, Cayman Islands, and Dominican Republic, both on property as well as through his management companies, Caribbean Hotel Management and Royal American, both located in Coral Springs, Florida. Later he split his time between Coral Springs and Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he was the executive vice president of the Flagship Resort. Several years later, Ted returned to Nassau, Bahamas, as the managing director of the Paley Foundation. In 2008, Ted and his wife, Pat, moved to St. Augustine, Fla., and purchased a bed and breakfast, The Kenwood Inn.
Some of Ted's best-told stories are about working with Howard Hughes, Henry Kissinger and William Paley, but one of his most cherished memories would be watching the movie "Walk The Line" with Sharon Stone as she voted as a member of the Academy for the Academy Awards. The movie was about Ted's favorite musician, Johnny Cash.
Ted succumbed to Alzheimer's on Aug. 17, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Dalzell Dobosz; children Kimberly Watkins (Steve) of Jacksonville, Christopher Dobosz of Toronto, and Kataryna Dobosz of St. Augustine; and grandchildren Megan and Ryan Watkins of Jacksonville. He is also survived by his brother, Michael (Palma) Dobosz of Toronto, and sister, Anna (Greg) Latta of Toronto. Ted is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Kateryna Dobosz.
