The Rev. John Eugene Tanner, 78, of St. Augustine, Fla., died Feb. 6, 2011 at his home. He was born in Danielsville, Ga., and had resided in St. Augustine since 1987. He was the pastor of The Church of God. Pastor Tanner recently celebrated his 50 year anniversary in the ministry. He served eight years in the Florida Army National Guard.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Church of God, 57 Anderson St., St. Augustine, Fla. Visitation will be held tonight (Tuesday) 5-8 p.m. also at the church. Burial will be in Craig Memorial Park, 2600 Old Moultrie Road, St. Augustine, Fla.

Pastor Tanner is preceded in death by his mother and father, Verdie and John H. Tanner, sister, Jonell Witzen, brother, Charles Tanner, and grandson, Michael Lee Hutto.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Eleanor Marie; daughter, Joyce Ann Bill (Barry), St. Augustine; sons, Alton Glenn Tanner, St. Augustine and Anthony Lynn Tanner (April) Elkton, Fla.; grandchildren, Matthew David Tanner, Brandi Amber Tanner and Anthony Lynn "A.J." Tanner, II .

Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of the arrangements.
