Walter Thomas Kaczmarek, 81, St. Augustine, died Dec. 2, 2012 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring surrounded by his family. He was born in Hartford, Conn., and moved from Cromwell, Conn., to Orange Park in 1977 and then to St. Augustine in 1980. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring after 22 years of service to his country. After retirement from the Navy he worked as a welder and chief ship fitter for numerous companies throughout Florida. He was of the Catholic faith.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 5, 2012 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Johnston, officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 4, 2012 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kaczmarek, St. Augustine; two daughters, Maria Walden Sullivan, Atlanta, Ga., Loretta Kaczmarek, St. Augustine; son, Walter Thomas Kaczmarek, Jr., Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Barbara Steele, Rocky Hill, Conn., Helen Reardon, Orange Park; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
