Carl A. Colalillo passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Bailey Hospice Center on Jan. 17, 2013.
Carl was born in Newark, N.J., to Albino and Anna Colalillo. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and afterwards earned his Bachelor of Science degree in criminology from Kean College in Union, N.J. He worked for both the Newark Police Department as a police officer and for the Essex County Sheriffs Office and at the same time owned and operated Colalillo Construction Company. He was a hard-working man who maintained and taught high principles. His honesty and integrity were to be admired.
Carl was a great father. He will be missed deeply by his wife of 40 years, Judy; two sons, Carlo A. (Cynthia) Colalillo and Thomas C. (Janie) Colalillo, all of St. Augustine; sister, Marie (Bob) Rusignuolo of Nutley, N.J.; brother, Dominic "Sonny" Colalillo of Belleville, N.J. and five grandchildren, Carlo, Ava, Aidan, David and Michael.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, with a memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. at Craig Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Carl"s memory to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675 or to St. Jude Children"s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
