Leon Soter Economou, 77, of Easley, S.C., husband of Wanda Murphy Economou, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of the late Soterios P. and Anthea Kereacou Economou.

Mr. Economou retired from GTE Sylvania and was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. With his wife of 54 years, he was a loving and dedicated parent and grandparent and a generous and kind friend. Together, they loved to travel and spend time with friends and family. He especially enjoyed golfing with his sons and time at the beach with his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Elaine Economou (Patrick Conlin) of Chelsea, Mich., and Katherine Economou (Stephen Butterworth) of Fallbrook, Calif.; a son, John S. Economou (Emily) of New Rochelle, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Christine Economou Dudley (Tom Dudley) of Easley, S.C.; a brother, Ernest Economou (Susan) of Kenmore, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas L. Economou.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral with the Trisagion Service at 10:30 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in White House Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, Bay Minette, Ala., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one"s choice or to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
