Bernie was in the loving care of Longwood Health Care Center and his family. Born in Jacksonville, Fla., he lived in Savannah, Ga., as a child until he joined the Navy. Bernie was the youngest of 10 children, predeceased by three sisters and six brothers, son, Bernace Jr., daughter, Barbara from his first marriage to Betty Byrd Wallace of Savannah, Ga. (deceased) and stepson, Kenny Teeple.
An Ironworker by trade and member of Miami Ironworkers Local #272 who retired in 1987, Bernie began his career with Gulf States Steel, placing steel on the vertical assembly building at Kennedy Space Center. He went on to form Seacoast Steel, a partnership company in South Florida, helping to line several well-known buildings along Brickell Avenue and the coast of South Florida, such as Plaza Venetia and Aventura Mall. His last job in South Florida was Sun Life Stadium, formerly known as Joe Robbie Stadium.
Bernie loved to bowl and was most proud of his perfect 300-game, which he achieved at Palm Springs Lanes in Hialeah. He also loved to golf, and had two holes-in-one at St. Johns Golf Club in St. Augustine, where he spent most of his retirement years.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carolyn and faithful dog, Barney; his three daughters, Belinda Garcia (Jose), Bonnie Brown (Richard), Kim Kirby (Ray); grandchildren, Tammy, Diana, Christopher (Belinda), Breanna, Savannah, Christian (deceased) (Bonnie), Tyler, Mackenzie, Trey (Kim); great-grandchildren, Maya (Tammy), Wyatt (Breanna), Cason (Savannah). He was also a favorite uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Bernie's wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Willow Creek Church, 4725 East Lake Drive, Winter Springs, FL 32708.
