Funeral service for Mrs. Janie Genora Ray, 72, was Tuesday, March 18, at 2 p.m., at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Brother Curry Harris officiating. Burial followed in the adjoining church cemetery. Mrs. Ray died Friday, March 14, 2014. She was a devoted member of Cool Springs Baptist Church. She retired from the Birmingham City School System after 25 years. She was the owner and operator of Steve Rays Bamboo Gardens. Mrs. Ray was very proud of her Cherokee Indian heritage, and she loved trips to the mountain and the outdoors. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.V. Oliver (Louise) Holloway; and her brother, Luther Marlon Holloway. Mrs. Ray is survived by her spouse, Stephen E. Ray Sr.; two sons, Stephen E. (Terri) Ray Jr., and Gene Ray (special friend Jack Franklin); daughter, Ginger (Shane) Adkins; brother, Shannon Holloway; grandchildren, Kristin (Justin) Pospy, Kacie Ray, Darren Adkins and Rhianna Adkins; and three great-grandchildren. Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.
