ASHVILLE- "A Celebration of Life" was held Monday, October 22, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church for Arnold Eugene (Bro. Gene) Stansell, 85, who went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 19, 2012. The Reverend C. Gerald Taylor officiated. Burial was at Argo Christian Fellowship Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his father, Irwin Stansell; mother, Elizabeth Churchwell Cooper; loving and faithful wife, Thelma Alene Stansell; brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Whipple (Beatrice). Mr. Stansell was a 1945 graduate of Murphy High School, Mobile, Alabama; Navy World War II Veteran; retired from Fairfield Works U.S. Steel; lived in Ashville, Alabama since 1971. The past year he has lived at Oak Landing Assisted Living in Attalla, Alabama. He was a faithful member of Lighthouse Baptist Church for over 41 years. As a church member, Mr. Stansell was fondly known by his church family as "Bro. Gene." He loved missions and missionaries and held a special reverence in his heart for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all of the world. He was an avid lawn care "servant for the Lord" at Lighthouse Baptist Church until the past year of his life due to declining health. Mr. Stansell is survived by nieces, Betty McHargue (Roy), Kathy Vincent (Rick); several great nieces and great nephews; cousin, Lowell Stansell (Sandy); niece-in-law, Barbara Bevel (Ray); special friends, Mr. and Mrs Brady Tolbert; Pastor and Mrs. C. Gerald Taylor and children; and Lighthouse Baptist Church Family. Pallbearers were Phillip Cox, Phil McCullough, Kevin McHargue, Roy McHargue, Herman Nibblett and Michael Nibblett. Honorary pallbearers were Brady Tolbert, Jerry Paul Tinsley, Owner of Oak Landing Assisted Living, Staff of Oak Landing Assisted Living, and Men's Sunday School Class of Lighthouse Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church Mission Fund, 2166 Pinedale Road, Ashville, Alabama 35953. Ridout's Trussville Chapel directed.
