The family of Harlan Savage is deeply saddened to announce his passing at the age of 94 on August 28, 2014, at his Pell City home surrounded by his family. Harlan Savage was born in Ragland, Alabama, on July 16, 1920, to Chester Loren and Mattie May Savage. He was the second of seven children, including siblings, Buren, Howard, Ellard, Inez, Neallie Ruth and Nettie. He met the love of his life, Lois Smith, and they were married on December 8, 1945. They celebrated 62 years of marriage shortly before her passing in 2008. Harlan served in the US Navy and was a Purple Heart recipient during World War II. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and wife. He is survived by his daughters, Gayle Rockhill (Ron) and Debra Allen; his special niece, Shelia White (Kiernan); and special nephews Stephen McElduff and Edward McElduff (Ahling); his grandchildren, Carla Rockhill, Kelly Rockhill Lee (Greg), Chip Rockhill, Jason Rockhill (Cortney), Arthur Burnett (Danielle) and Spencer Allen (Sarah); his great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tanner and Tristan Lindsey, Laurel and Laine Rockhill and Della Paige and Katelyn Rockhill. Harlan's life was a sermon. He loved God and he loved others. His relationship with the Lord was the most important thing in his life. He was a member of New Prospect Church, New Baptist Church and he attended Logan Martin Church of Christ. For over 35 years, he owned and operated Reimer and Savage Plumbing Company. In his later years, one of his weekly highlights was meeting with The Thursday Morning Coffee Drinkers. And no fall Saturday would be complete without watching Alabama football. The family would like to thank AlaCare Hospice for their loving kindness and care they gave to Harlan and our special thanks to Suzanne. Visitation was held at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City on September 2nd from 2-3 pm. Funeral services were immediately following at 3 pm. Interment followed at St. Clair Memorial Gardens.
