MT. BROOK- Herschel Byram Poole Jr., age 91 passed away at his home in Mt. Brook on March 23, 2013, as he desired. Mr. Poole was pre-de ceased by his parents Herschel B. Poole, Sr. and Grace Ellenburg Poole; 2 sisters, Lucille Poole Montgomery and Mary Grace Poole; 1 brother, William Ellenburg Poole and son H. Byram Poole, III. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Anna Mae Watt Poole; daughter, Kathryn Poole Garcia (Joe); grandchildren, Leslie Anne Hillhouse (Jose Gonzalez), grandson, SSG John Emmett Hillhouse; and daughter-in-law Katherine Carmi chael Poole. Mr. Poole was born in Leeds, AL Feb. 18, 1922. He served as a navigator bombardier and flew with Pathfinder Group of bombers in the European theatre in World War II. His group provided air protection during the Battle of the Bulge and he was a member of the local Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge group until his death. He returned to the U. S. and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Poole retired as the Managing Director of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers (AISE) in Pittsburgh. During his career as a Professional Mechanical Engineer he also worked for U. S. Steel and Rust Engineering in Birmingham, AL. He was also a member of the Downtown Rotary and the Pittsburgh Rotary, as well as Civitan International, Leeds Historical Society, ASIE (now ASIT). He served as a deacon and elder at Independent Presbyterian, was a member of the Senior Men's Club, and involved in the Southtown project. He and his wife traveled the world together, both privately and for business. He was extremely intelligent with an unfailing memory. He loved world-class dining and had many interests, especially anything technical. Most important to him though were his family members and their health, well-being, prosperity and future. He will be missed by all those he loved and who loved him. Funeral Services were held Friday at 4 PM at Kilgroe Funeral Home Leeds Chapel with burial at Poole Cemetery.
