Helmrick, Raymond C.

Raymond Clarence Helmrick passed away on December 30, 2012 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI. Ray was born on September 24, 1919 in Almond, WI to the late Edward and Hazel (Detlor) Helmrick. He grew up in Almond and later moved to Madison and then Chicago. He served his country in the U.S. Army, was deployed to Europe during WWII and was honorably discharged. Ray married Dorothy Wilson who preceded him in death. Ray later married Dorothy Wallner in Plainfield and together they raised 5 children in Plainfield and later Almond. Ray and Dorothy owned and operated the Gambles Store in Almond for many years. He later married Erna Gardner of Medicine Hat, AB. Ray enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, traveling and working on his crafts. Survivors include his children, Kenneth (Linda), Plainfield and their children Dustin (Jamie) and Heather (fiancé Craig and fiancé's son, Chase); Keith (Jane), Plover and their children Jacqueline and Michael; Kurt (Jodi), River Falls and their children Ben and Jacob; and Kevin (Georgia), San Antonio, TX and their children William and Joseph. He is also survived by his brother, Lyle (Elaine) Helmrick and two sisters, Violet Worden and Donna King. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hazel Helmrick; his first wife, Dorothy Wilson; a daughter, Karen Helmrick; two brothers, Leland and Wilton; and three sisters, Meta, Bernice, and Irene. In accordance with Ray's wishes, his body has been donated to the UW-Madison School of Medicine. A Memorial Service for Ray will be on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 4:30 PM at the Almond United Methodist Church of Almond, WI. Reverend David Leistra will officiate. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 - 4:30 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a memorial fund to be established in Ray's name. The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family of Ray sincerely appreciates the wonderful care and kindness provided by the staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home.
