Scotty "Scott" V. King
Scotty "Scott" V. King, age 59 of Hancock took his final breaths on earth on February 24, at 7PM but immediately took his first breaths and opened his eyes in Heaven, and was welcomed and embraced by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Scott was surrounded by family in his final hours and minutes on earth after a fighting a courageous battle with cancer. In the end, although the cancer took his earthy life, we rejoice in knowing that he is free from pain and is now celebrating with family and dear friends who have gone before.
Scott was born June 26, 1954 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The first-born child of Floyd and Helen King, the family soon moved back to Coloma where Scott was raised. He graduated from Westfield High in 1972 and later graduated from Madison Area Tech with a degree in art.
On May 20, 1978, Scott married his childhood sweetheart, and the love of his life, Marilyn. In 1985 Scott and Marilyn moved from the country into Hancock. They went on to celebrate 35 wonderful years together and have two children. In 2011 Scott experienced another milestone by becoming a grandfather for the first-time.
For the past 21 years Scott worked as a custodian and Tri-County Area Schools, he was known for the great amount of pride which he put into his work and his close attention to detail, especially during the summer months when we would meticulously sand and wax the gymnasium floors. He spoke often and fondly of his co-workers and the teaching staff at the district, many of whom he formed close personal bonds with, and many became second family to him.
Scott was a humble, quiet, loving man. He would give anything he could, or do anything in his power to make life a little better for those around him. Although sometimes a man of few words, when he would give his opinion, everyone knew that his words were sincere and would be taken to heart. The impact he made on individuals lives perhaps cannot be measured or counted; but he always made an effort to sit down and have a meaningful conversation over a cup of coffee or on a quick break at work.
Scott was an avid photographer and artist. He often could be found with his camera hanging from his belt, always looking for the next scene to unfold in front of him and he would be ready to capture and perhaps recreate it later with canvas and paint. He will be remembered for his gentleness and his thoughtful spirit and the love he had for his family. Scott loved campfires during the summer months and getting together with various family members and talking about the ins and outs of life as he would throw a few more logs on the fire.
Scott loved taking yearly Canadian family fishing trips; and even in the final days of life was actively planning a trip in July where he was going to relax and catch "the big one".
Scott is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Losey) King, Hancock. His two children, Rachel (Aaron) Kumferman, Plainfield and Aaron King, Hancock. One grandchild, Maggie. He is further survived by his father, Floyd King, Coloma, three siblings, Brenda (Dan) Hansen, Clintonville, Randy (Diane) King, McFarland, and Becky (Dave) Norman, Woodstock, Ontario.
