Francis "Frank" J. Shields
Francis "Frank" J. Shields, 84, of Plover died Thursday January 17, 2013 at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital with his family by his side. He was under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
Francis was born on February 20, 1928 in Far Rockaway New York. He was the son of the late John & Irene (Byrnes) Shields.
He graduated from Valley Stream Central High School in 1946.He entered the service on January 20, 1949 at Lynbrook New York. He served in the Army
and was honorably discharged on January 19, 1950 at Fort Riley Kansas. Francis reenlisted in the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged on January 19, 1955.
His marriage to Ann Riordan took place on October 11, 1952 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Lynbrook NY. After the marriage the couple settled in Rockville Center NY.
They moved to Stevens Point in 1964. Francis worked for the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, retiring on April 6, 1990.
He was a member of the Stevens Point Elks Lodge
and the American Legion Post 6.
He enjoyed family outings, traveling with his wife and nature.
Survivors include his wife Ann Shields of Plover. Children; Bradley (Ellen) Shields of Menomonie Falls. Thomas (Vilma) Shields of Murietta California. Lynne (Steve) Snyder of Bloomington Indiana. Denise (Thomas) Shields-Kvasnicka of Brookfield. Frank Jr. (Tammy) Shields of Stevens Point. Ann Dudzik of Lake Tomahawk. Geraldine (Rodger) Butler of Stevens Point and Erica Shields of Plover.
21 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. Also survived by one sister, Irene Mahon of Long Island New York.
He was preceded in death by his children, Ann & Philip. Brothers, Thomas & Jack and one sister, Janet.

Funeral Mass; 10:30 a.m. Tuesday January 22, 2013 at St. Casimir Catholic Church Town of Hull. Rev Arul Joseph V. will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home 703 Second Street and again on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. American Legion Post 6 ritual at 6:30 p.m. Elk's ritual at 6:45 p.m. and the parish rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
