Janet E. Rifleman
Janet Edith (Benn) Rifleman, age 87, of Stevens Point, died suddenly June 9, 2013 at home.
Janet was born on December 27, 1925 to the late Dr. H.P & Beth (Biglow) Benn in Madison, WI. She was raised in Stevens Point, attended the local schools, and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1943.
Following high school, she attended various colleges: Milwaukee Downer Women's College, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Madison, and University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. Janet graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Home Economics & Dietetics.
Janet taught home economics at Pulaski School in Milwaukee, WI. In later years, she became the Activities Director at Lakeview Manor in Weyawega, WI.
She married Dr. Robert H. Rifleman on August 31, 1946 in Stevens Point. They were divorced in 1974.
Janet was an avid sports fan for all Wisconsin teams, especially the Brewers and the Packers. She loved the Wisconsin River, birds, and her children. Janet was active in the International Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, CB Chapter of Stevens Point and, in her earlier years, taught Sunday School for Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church, Stevens Point.
She is survived by her children, Scott (Anne) Rifleman of Stevens Point, Laurie (Jack) Rice of Fort Atkinson, Robert C. (Annie) Rifleman of Prescott, and Dr. Gregory (Nancy) Rifleman of Prescott; grandchildren, Robert (Mindy) Rice, Jason (Lucia) Rice, Baylen Rifleman, Alyssa Rifleman; step grandchildren, Adrian, Nick, and Lindsey Krygowski; great grandchildren, Aiden Rice and Nicholas Rice; sisters, Margaret Lee and Susan (John) Hoaglund; half sisters, Mary (Kaellan) Emery and Gretchen (Gordon) Renford; and half brother, Dr. William (Rachel) Benn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a very close friend, Jerry Lemberger.
A Time of Sharing Memories, paying tribute to her life, will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Boston Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the International P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter CB. Online condolences may be made at www.bostonfuneralhome.net
Janet was a strong and beautiful woman. She will be deeply missed.
