John P. Czerwonka

John P. Czerwonka, 69, Wittenberg, died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at his home under the care of his family and AseraCare Hospice, Wausau.

He was born on February 5, 1944 in Chicago IL. John served in the Army from 1962-1965.

On July 1, 1967, John was united in marriage to Maribeth Walli in Milwaukee. She survives.

John worked as Postmaster for Rosholt and Nelsonville for many years. He was a member of various committees and organizations. He loved being out on his land with his dog, Bob, planting trees and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Maribeth Czerwonka, Wittenberg; five children, Ann (Jerry) Pagel, Kronenwetter, Lisa (Mark) O'Shasky, Wisconsin Rapids, Christine (Ted) Kowalski, Oak Harbor, WA, Maria (Karl) Riebe, Abrams, and John (Ronda) Czerwonka, Rothschild; 12 grandchildren, Zach, Makayla, Preston, Ben, Sam, Michelle, Kristin, Emily, Allyson, Carter, Nicholas and Gavin; one brother, Michael Fleck and one sister, Sharon Fleck, both of Milwaukee. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan; his mother, Pearl Fleck and Walter Fleck; a sister, Margaret, his maternal grandparents, Helen and John Czerwonka and a special uncle, Maynard Czerwonka.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, March 1, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galloway. Fr. Augustine Bentil will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post #502. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 4pm-8pm with a Rosary recited at 7:30pm. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church.
