Joseph C. Wozniak
Joseph C. Wozniak, age 88 of Stevens Point died Friday March 28, 2014, at the Portage County Health Care Center.
Joseph was born on March 31, 1925 in Stevens Point to the late Michael and Anna (Kryzanowski)
He attended St. Peter Grade School and attended P.J. Jacobs High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy
at the age of 17 on March 30, 1943 at Great Lakes Illinois. Joseph served in the United States Navy during World War II
. He received the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 2 stars, American Theater and Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 15, 1945 at Port Hueneme California.
His marriage to Mary Ann Burant took place on August 20, 1948 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, after the marriage the couple settled in Stevens Point. His wife Mary Ann died on August 9, 2004.
Joseph worked as an auto mechanic for Schwartz Buick, also worked at BakeRite. In 1956 Joseph was the operator of Park Ridge Texaco. He then became owner and operator of Southside Shell until his retirement on April 30, 1985.
He was a member of the Stevens Point Rifle and Pistol Club, also the Retail Gasoline Dealers Association of Wisconsin board of directors for 15 years. He enjoyed camping, boating and listening to polka music.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathy (Jerry) Danczyk and a son Carl Wozniak both of Stevens Point.
Brother-in-laws, Louie Gard and Donald (Mary) Burant and a sister-in-law, Margaret Adamski. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and the staff on the east wing at the Portage County Health Care Center for their wonderful care of Joseph.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Comas and three brothers, Frank, Walter and Bruno.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 2, 2014, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Lindner officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
