Louis R. LaCroix
Louis R. LaCroix, age 68, of Stevens Point, WI died at home March 9, 2013 while under the care of his loving family and Hartland Hospice.
Lou was born March 7, 1945 to the late George & Mildred (Stone) LaCroix in Fall River, MA. His family moved to Somerset, MA where he grew up, attended local grade schools and graduated high school.
Shortly after high school, Lou joined the US Marine Corps
. Following his time with the Marines, he reinlisted into the US Army
on Dec 30, 1965. Lou's time of service included a tour during the Vietnam Conflict. During this time, Lou earned a Vietnam Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Metal, National Defence Service Metal, and an Army Good Conduct Metal. He was honorably discharged on Dec 9, 1968.
Following his discharge, Lou became employed as a maintenance man with Loyola College in Baltimore, MD. He later moved to Pennsylvania where he caught on with a machining company concentrating in tool and die work.
While in Pennsylvania, Lou met Lorrie Barber, who captured his heart and lured him back to Steven Point, WI in 1999.
Lou will be remembered for his enthusiasm and dedication as a partner, a friend, and an American Veteran
. He had a passion for veteran organizations and involving himself within local veteran affairs. He was a committed member of American Legion Post 6 and their Honor Guard. Lou was commander of the Portage County American Legion as well as Post 6; a member of the Disabled American Veterans; a board member of Dry Hootch; and was on the board of directors for the American Legion Baseball League. Lou was definitely a patriot and proved his national gratitude. He often assisted others in replacing tattered or torn American Flags.
In his spare time, Lou enjoyed traveling, gaming and joyriding on his scooter.
Survivors include his partner in crime, Lorrie Barber of Stevens Point; those thought of as family, Suzanne (Bruce) Rathe of Stevens Point, Shelley (Mark) Raczek of Mosinee, Stacey (Tim) Mc Dowell of Stevens Pont, Sarah (Craig) Stiff of Carson, CA; grandchildren, Ellen, Anna, Alexandra, Gabriella, Benjamin, Isabella, Anthony, Michael, Nathan, Katelyn, Leah, and Lindsay. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia (Maxwell) Millar of Somerset, MA; brother Robert (Mary) LaCroix of Fall River, MA; and many close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judith Cormier; and brother, George LaCroix.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Friday, March 15, 2013 at The Church of the Intercession, Stevens Point with Rev. Jane Johnson officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Boston Funeral Home with an American Legion Post 6 ritual at 6:30 pm. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery. Lou will receive full military honors by his fellow honor guard.
