Pagel, Merle A.
Merle A. Pagel, age 88, of Almond, WI passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Riverview Lodge Assisted Living in Stevens Point. Merle was born in Almond on November 9, 1924, the son of the late Arthur J. and Alma (Bassler) Pagel. On November 22, 1945, he married Evonne Miner in Almond where they lived together and raised their family.
After graduating from Almond High School, Merle attended Milwaukee School of Engineering and then began his career in the road construction business. Along with his father and brothers, he owned and operated Pagel Construction Company, Inc. until retiring in 1988. After retiring, he managed Pagel Farms in Almond. He was a past member of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, Wisconsin Earth Movers Association, Almond-Bancroft School Board, Almond Village Board, and a stockholder in the Portage County Bank. Merle was the last surviving charter member of the Almond Lions Club and was recipient of Melvin Jones Fellowship. Merle especially loved traveling, vacationing up north and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Almond.
Merle is survived by his children: Cheryl (Larry) Ammel, Kewaskum; Arthur (Carmen) Pagel and Jon (Mary) Pagel, both of Almond. He is further survived by seven grandchildren: Trina (Jim) Warzynski; Todd (Jennipher) Pagel; Curt Ammel; Krysten (McCann) Schroeder; Tarrah Pagel; Jon Ross & Evan Pagel, seven great grandchildren: Dylan, Garret, Cole & Breeley Warzynski; JennaMarie Pagel; Abigail & Quinn Schroeder; his brother: Kenneth (Emily) Pagel, Almond; his sister: Adeline Bork, Ashwaubenon. Merle is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Merle was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evonne, a grandchild, Derek Ammel, a brother, Lyle, a niece, Karen Warner, and a nephew, Thomas Molski.
The Funeral Service will be on Monday, July 15 at 11 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Almond with Reverend Brian Roehrborn, officiating. Burial will follow in the Almond Village Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 14 from 4 to 6 PM and on Monday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the church. The family has requested memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers. The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond is assisting the family with arrangements.
