James H. Brooks age 85, of Plover passed away peacefully on October 9, 2013, at his home surrounded by family.

A Mass of Christian Burial for James will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday October 14, 2013 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church. Rev. Monsignor Jeffrey D. Burrill and Deacon Rich Zeitlow will officiate. Burial with full military honors, will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Sunday at the Plover - Shuda Funeral Home in Plover. The Knights of Columbus of Stevens Point, of which James was a member, will lead a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 Sunday night at the funeral home. American Legion/VFW Ceremony will be held at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. Visitation will also be on Monday from 9:30 - 10:15 AM at the church.

James was born March 7, 1928 in the Town of Plover, the son of William and Ona (Cater) Brooks. He attended Isherwood School and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1947. He entered the service on December 20, 1948. James served his country in the United States Air Force stationed in Japan during the Korean War, and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. After his honorable discharge on September 2, 1952, he attended Coyne Electronic School in Chicago, graduating in 1953. James married Margaret Lebrick on May 11, 1954 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Stevens Point. The couple moved to Tomah in 1956, and James managed a television and radio shop there until 1960. The couple moved to Plover and he began his career at Montgomery Ward in Stevens Point, servicing the stores merchandise until the store closed in 1982. James then began working for St. Michaels Hospital as a maintenance mechanic in the hospital's Building and Grounds department until his retirement in 1995. James was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, an active parishioner and usher at St. Bronislava Church and Eucharistic Minister. He was a former service officer for American Legion Post 543 of Plover. He helped organize the Plover-Whiting Little League baseball program and girls softball, and was active in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the Horseman's Club. In retirement James enjoyed bowling, square dancing, golfing, traveling, and camping.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Margaret and their six children: Kevin (Donna)of Plover and their children: Christopher, April and Kyle. Krystal Ferg (Richard) of Rosholt and their children; Justin, Jenessa, Jolynn, Kassandra and Kaitlin. Keith (Joanna) of Plover and their children; Christopher, Andrew, Brian, Aaron and Kimberly. Kraig (Roxann) of Plover and their children; Brodie and Korryn. Kent (Karen) of Oconomowoc and their children; Matthew and Kendra. Karol Stroik (Bruce) of Rosendale and their children; Jordan and Amber. Jim is also survived by his brothers and sisters Arvilla Wentworth of Beloit, Robert Brooks of Rudolph, twin sister Jane Wherritt of Plover,

Donald (Lynn) Brooks of Wis. Rapids, Eunice (Florian) Lasecki of Stevens Point, Dale (Diana) Brooks of Beloit, Rhody (Charlotte) Brooks of EL Cajon, California, 24 great grand children and 1 great great grand child.

The Family would like to thank his special care givers: Korryn, Brady, Kim, Kayla, Shawna, Paul, and Jason. They were his Angels that allowed Jim to remain in his own home throughout the duration of his illness.
