August V. Marturano

Of Stevens Point died early Sunday morning January 20, 2013 at the Oakridge Senior Living Center.

Age 87 August was born February 17, 1925 in Chicago, IL. He was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Marino) Marturano. He attended local schools in the Chicago area.

August entered the United States Navy on June 4, 1943 in Chicago, IL. He served as a Carpenters Mate 2nd Class on the U.S.S. J. Franklin Bell and the U.S.S. Rizzi. He served in the Air Center at Quadalcanal and received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and the American Theatre Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on April 6, 1946 at Great Lakes, IL.

His marriage to Dorothy E. Talley took place on May 31, 1946 in Richmond, VA. She survives. August worked for Flex-O-Glass and Duralam Manufacturing as their plant manager for many years until his retirement in 1987.

August is survived by his wife Dorothy and their five children; Susan (Brian) Merriman of Parker, CO., Kathleen (Bob) Mesce of Fox Lake, IL, August (Deb) Marturano Jr. of Merrill, WI., Lori (Jeff) DeWolfe of Mosinee, WI., and Donna (Glenn) Toner of Lakeville, MN., eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Further survived by two brothers; Joseph (Nancy) Marturano of Bartlett, IL, and Arthur (Judy) Marturano of Glenview, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Marie. Family asks that memorials in August's name be given to or the / Greater Wisconsin Chapter would be appreciated.
