Sankey, Esther

On October 17, 2013, Esther T. Sankey, 65, Stevens Point died after a courageous battle with cancer, under the care of hospice at The House of Dove Marshfield.

Esther was born on Friday, September 13, 1948, in Stevens Point. She was the 13th child born to the late Alois Sr. and Mary (Gburek) Pezewski.

On June 27, 1968, her marriage to Richard A. Sankey took place at St. Peter Catholic Church, Stevens Point. Richard was killed in an automobile accident on February 27, 1972.

Esther had worked for Copps-Corporate, The Cottage, Arby's and most recently Herrschners.

Her interests included going to church picnics, playing bingo, casino visits, watching the Packers, Dancing with the Stars, and card playing with friends. Her greatest love was her family.

Survivors include her children: Daughter, Tricia (John) Engel of Appleton, Sons, Lonnie (Tammy) Sankey of Amherst, Scott Sankey of Stevens Point, and Jerry Sankey of Arcata, California. Grandchildren: Josh, Jed and Jesse Engel; Ashley and Michael Sankey; Jonathan, Samantha and Clayton Sankey, brothers: Alois Pezewski, of Milwaukee, Benedict of Stevens Point, sisters: Elizabeth Mocadlo, Plover, Mary Bellinger, and Sophie Kubisiak, Stevens Point, Rose Ann (Victor) Bycyznski, Junction City, and Ann (Anthony) Drefcinski, Plover, brother-in law Leonard Kubowski, sister-in laws: Rose-Marie (Maynard) Tetzloff, Romaine (Julian) Wierzba, Rita (Daniel) Betker and Patricia Sankey and many nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Sankey, grandson, Ricky Sankey, parents, Alois and Mary Pezewski, brothers Steve, Anton and Albert, sisters, Frances Modrzewski and Veronica Kubowski, brothers in-law Carl Mocadlo, Hubert Modrzewski, William Bellinger, William Kubisiak and Robert Sankey.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday October 19, 2013, at St Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church-Fancher, Rev. T. Dioka presiding. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be at church on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at the House of the Dov -Marshfield. They brought much comfort to our mother and our family while she was under their care.
