Ruth Engleman Obituary

Ruth Engleman, 83, of Oakridge Senior Living in Stevens Point, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital.

Funeral services for Ruth will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dee Webber and the Rev. Howard Hintzman will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.

Ruth was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Gering, Neb., the daughter of Jacob and Eva (Knaub) Wegelin. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1947. Ruth married Donald Engleman on Dec. 14, 1947, in Scottsbluff. The couple stayed in Nebraska until moving to California in 1951.

After 10 years on the West Coast, they returned to Nebraska where Ruth worked at Montgomery Ward in Scottsbluff. In 1983 Don died in a farming accident, and Ruth moved to California in 1984 to be near her siblings.

In 2002 Ruth moved to Stevens Point and into the Oakridge Senior Living facility to be close to her daughter, Peggy, and her family. During her time in Wisconsin, Ruth became an avid Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badger fan, as well as remaining a loyal Nebraska Cornhusker fan. She loved being active in her church, and spending time with family and friends.

Ruth is survived by her four children, Larry (Tami) Engleman, Scottsbluff, Tom Engleman, Gering, Steve (Marilyn) Engleman, Morrill, Neb., and Peggy (Bill) Selck, Stevens Point; nine grandchildren, Cari, Kinsey, Julia, Holly, Michael, Heather, Kate, Kassie and Drew; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Freda Heimbuck, Mission Viejo, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her grandson, Brandon; and six brothers and one sister.

The family would like to thank Dr. Anthony George and the caring nursing staff on the second floor ICU unit of Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital for the wonderful care that they gave to Ruth during her time with them.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be established in her name for St. Paul United Methodist Church and the second floor ICU Unit at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital. Memorials can be sent to attention of Peggy Selck, 2533 Algoma St., Stevens Point, WI 54481.
