Thelma H. Flood, age 99, of Oakridge Senior Living Community, Stevens Point, died February 29, 2012 at the Portage County Health Care Center while under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

Thelma Hansen Flood was born on September 20, 1912, daughter of Marion and Gertrude (Stevens) Hansen, in Almond, Wisconsin. A woman of deep faith, she went home to be with her Lord on February 29, 2012

Thelma attended elementary and high school in Almond. She attended Central State Teachers College for two years, and then taught lower grades in Adams and Fox Lake, Wisconsin.

On September 20, 1939, Thelma and Kenneth Flood of Stevens Point were married in the Hansen home and spent fifty-three years together in the Stevens Point area.

They had three children, Kenneth Jr, (Janet) Appleton, Marion J. ( Jeanette) (Bud and Jan) and Christine F. Schmelling both of Stevens Point. G'Gma was particularly delighted by her seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild -who all gave her great joy.

Thelma taught sunday school and worked with missions in the First Baptist Church. She was active in Extension Homemakers for more than 65 years, holding offices in the local, county, district, and state levels. She was a worker in the Holly Shop in the Senior Center for many years. Thelma wanted others to understand and accept the Amish culture and presented "their story" over 100 times in central Wisconsin. She thought it was a privilege, not a duty, to be a voting citizen. Thelma loved people, liked to play games, birds, knitting and having good friends. She enjoyed wildflowers and walks in the woods along the Tomorrow River.

Thelma lived life filled with curiosity, integrity, courage, a sense of humor and a generous spirit - always putting others first in thoughts and deeds. She continued teaching by sharing her wisdom, faith, and unconditional love throughout her life.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken; son, Kenneth, Jr. and son-in-law, John Schmelling.

A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Boston Funeral Home with Chaplin Janet Jacoby officiating. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 10:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ministry Home Care Hospice or the Easter Seal Society.

Thelma's family would like to thank the staff at the Portage County Health Care Center for all the wonderful work you do. The care, concern and comfort received during her short stay in Sunrise Garden was outstanding.
