Suplicki, John M. "J. Mike"

John M. "J. Mike" Suplicki, 65, of Stevens Point, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

He was born on May 3, 1947, in Stevens Point, to the late John R. and Mary (Schoettel) Suplicki, and attended St. Stephen's Grade School and was a 1965 graduate of P.J. Jacobs High School.

Mike served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, entering service on Aug. 8, 1966, in Milwaukee, and being honorably discharged, at the rank of Corporal, on July 15, 1968, at Ft. Lewis, Washington.

He worked at the Copps Distribution Center in Stevens Point, both in the warehouse and as a truck driver, for many years before retiring in 2005.

His activities and interests included having served as Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge No. 641, member of Moose Lodge No. 1572, American Legion Post No. 6 and current life member of Stevens Point AMVETS Post No. 1051. He had been an avid softball player, enjoyed stockcar racing and traveling to NASCAR races, and was a big Packers and Brewers fan. He also enjoyed driving around listening to Sunday morning polkas and riding his motorcycle on the back roads.

Survivors include his sisters, Mary Kay (Robert) Hamilton and Carol (George) Strasser both of Stevens Point; brother-in-law, Larry Zywicki of Stevens Point; six nieces and nephews; and nine grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Zywicki.

The family thanks the staff at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King for their care and compassion given to Mike.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Mike's name.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, 703 2nd Street, Stevens Point, with Deacon Richard Rozumalski officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service, with Elks Lodge No. 641 holding a ritual at 10:45 a.m. For online condolences, please visit (715) 344-4595.
