Edward "Edda" Soik

Edward "Edda" Soik age 88, of Stevens Point passed away on Sunday night February 24, 2013 with family.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edward will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday March 1, 2013 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Rev. Thomas Lindner will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. There will be no visitation on Friday. A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established for Ministry Hospice.

Edward was born July 18, 1924 in Stevens Point, the son of Joseph and Maggie (Jakusz) Soik. He graduated from St. Stanislaus Elementary and was a 1942 graduate of P.J. Jacobs High School. Edward had perfect attendance all 12 years of schooling, never missing a day. He entered the United States Army on May 18, 1943 in Milwaukee. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe in the Gun Crewman Artillery. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 5 bronze stars, good conduct medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 2, 1945 at Ft. Knox, KY. He returned to the area and married Lorraine Firkus on March 2, 1946 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The couple settled in Stevens Point and Edward began his career at the Nekoosa paper mill which later became Kimberly-Clark. Edward retired as a boiler engineer in 1986. He was a past member of the Elks Club and was an avid fisherman. Most of all Edward was a dedicated family man and enjoyed being a "jack of all trades" and helping others.

Edward is survived by his 5 children: Kenneth (Valerie) Soik, Anchorage, Alaska; Deborah (Frank) Stone, Los Banos, CA; Keith Soik, Stevens Point; Carla Tesauro, Middleton; Paul (Theresa) Soik, Middleton. 7 grandchildren: Mike, Chris, Elizabeth, Marissa, Christina, Nick, and Matthew. 2 great grandchildren: Olin and Tia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lorraine in 2005, and two brothers: Victor and Robert.
